Vaginal Rejuvenation

RENEWING A WOMAN’S CONFIDENCE AND COMFORT

Most women aren’t prepared for a common problem that occurs after menopause – painful intercourse. The board-certified doctors at Westmoreland OB/GYN Associates effectively treat the problem with an innovative laser, the MonaLisa Touch®. As the gentle laser strengthens and restores vaginal tissues, symptoms such as vaginal dryness and painful sex disappear. To learn more about how to improve your vaginal health after menopause, call one of the offices in Lake Bluff or Grayslake, Illinois, or schedule an appointment using online booking.

What is the MonaLisa Touch?

The MonaLisa Touch is a state-of-the-art laser that relieves the symptoms of vaginal atrophy, a condition that affects half of all women after menopause. As a fractional CO2 laser, the MonaLisa Touch divides a single laser beam into numerous microbeams of light.

As a result, the laser’s energy penetrates small microdots of the targeted tissue, leaving the surrounding tissues untouched. This technique treats enough of the tissue to stimulate physical changes, while the remaining healthy tissues promote fast healing.

The MonaLisa Touch was also developed with a pulse shape design (PSD®) that allows the laser to reach the precise depth needed to treat structures below the surface.

What should I know about vaginal atrophy?

When estrogen levels drop at menopause, the tissues inside your vagina change. The vaginal lining becomes thin, less elastic, and dehydrated. This condition, called vaginal atrophy, results in the following symptoms:

  • Vaginal dryness
  • Painful intercourse
  • Vaginal burning
  • Genital itching
  • Increase in vaginal and urinary tract infections
  • Urinary urgency, frequency, and mild urinary incontinence
  • Bleeding after intercourse
  • Less lubrication during intercourse
  • Burning when you urinate

Treatment with the MonaLisa Touch can help you overcome these symptoms.

How does the MonaLisa Touch work?

Treatment with the MonaLisa Touch is so gentle that it’s well tolerated without any type of anesthetic, however, our doctors pre-treat with a topical anesthetic prior to the treatment mainly for comfort during the external treatment. During your procedure, your doctor at Westmoreland Obstetrics and Gynecologic Associates inserts a round device into your vagina. As the device sends out laser beams, the laser’s energy goes through the vaginal lining and heats structures below the surface.

The controlled heat improves blood circulation and triggers the production of collagen, elastin, and hyaluronic acid. As a result, the vaginal lining regains strength, elasticity, and hydration.

Your MonaLisa Touch procedure takes about five minutes, then you can get back to your normal routine. It only takes a few days for the tissues to heal. During that time, you may feel minor discomfort and you should avoid intercourse.

How long will my results last?

You may need several sessions to obtain optimal results. Once your treatments are finished, the result is long lasting – you’ll only need a yearly treatment to maintain your results.

To learn whether the MonaLisa Touch can treat your vaginal symptoms, call Westmoreland OB/GYN Associates or book an appointment online. All patients are accepted. You do not need to be a patient of Westmoreland ObGyn Associates to receive the MLT treatments.
